The Malikha Lodge and White Water Rafting

In the far North of Myanmar, on the borders of Tibet and Northern India, lies one of the last great wilderness areas in the world, Myanmar’s greenest and most remote state. Here in the eastern reaches of the Himalayas, the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River is born, before it begins its epic journey southwards to Mandalay and out into the Bay of Bengal.
The focal point of The Malikha Lodge is the main lodge, where guests come to gather around two blazing log fires for drinks, dining or just pure relaxation. Assess to the lodge is a fifteen-minute drive from the small frontier town of Putao. Formally known as Fort Jertz, Putao was one of the British Empire’s most remote outposts. During the Second World War, even the Japanese were unable to conquer this remote and isolated area. Today, Putao remains completely cut off from the outside world by millions of acres of subtropical rainforest and jagged peaks. The only reliable access is by flight into the Putao airstrip during the cool dry season from October to April. Home to a myriad of different cultures and religions, its reputation as a land of old style adventure and discovery is rivaled only by the warmness of its welcome.
Daytime activities range from short jungle treks to mountain biking, hiking through tribal villages, Elephant trekking, scenic raft trips and kayaking. And also provide longer multiday trekking and rafting expeditions. For the more sedate, one can simply laze on our riverside deck or enjoy and open-air massage in our bamboo grove spa.
Above all The Malikha Lodge is the ultimate retreat from the stresses of modern day living, the perfect place to replenish mind, body and spirit.

(Swiftlets Dewelling in House: Swiftlets are water side birds that they are found in the neighbourhood of water but not normally swimming on it. They dwell in the cave and crevices of steep rocky mountains surrounded by sea water. The swiftlets what we call in Myanmar zi-wa-so are unique birds that provide large-scale production of height-value edible nests. It is surprising and one could even say that it is a wonder to observe the swiftlets inhabiting a residential house on the Strand Road in Myeik Town. The swiftlets dwell in that particular house throughout the year and at breeding time they build nests on the beams of the ceiling, on the window bars or any woody edge or shelf. The swiftlets build their nests by secreting the saliva from their well-developed salivary glands. The saliva is secreted out by means of the beak, the saliva is glued to the preferred surface as an even base for the nest site. To that base, saliva is gradually added on and finally woven into a half-cup nest large enough to hold an adult and one or two chick. As the saliva is exposed, the air hardens it, giving it an appearance of a gelatin.)
