TIPS FOR OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

OPTIONAL ( I ) : 3DAYS / 2NIGHTS TREKKING (FROM PINDAYA)

Day 1: Pindaya – Yasakyi ( Palaung village )
Take trekking path to Htut Ni village and take a break at Si Kya In ( Danu village ). Keep trekking passing through valley, villages and tea plantation will reach Yasakyi (Palaung) village. Total walking hour is about 3 hrs. Palaung people believe in Buddhism but some living in remote area are animist. They considered being one of the earliest people to setup in Myanmar. Up to now, they have stick to their traditional way of life. They earning a living from the cultivation of seasonal crops and Say Ywat Kyi leaves used by the Burmese home made cigar to wrap the cheroot. Overnight at Yasakyi monastery.

Day 2: Yasagyi / Kanhla gone (Danu Village)
Breakfast at the monastery. After breakfast, start 2nd day trekking to PaO mountainous trek. Continue about 1 hrs to Mane Taung, and then continue to walk about 1 hrs to Pin Sein Pin village. Then proceed to Htin Shu Gon Village (30 min). Lunch will be serving at Htin Shu Gone Village. After lunch, proceed to Kan Hla Kone. On the way to Kan Hla Kone village you can observe life style of the villagers. Dinner and overnight at Kan Hla Gone Monestary.

Day 3 : Kanhla-gone – Pindaya
Breakfast at the monastery. Take walk after breakfast to Shwe-pa-htoe village passing by valley and mountains. Continue descending the mountain and can visit vegetable, flower gardens and fields of rice. It takes about 1hr. Afterward to Ye-phyu then to Pindaya is plain land; need to walk about 2hr 30mins.

OPTION ( II ) : DISCOVER ' SAGAR ' &' THAKHAUK ' ( INLE LAKE )

A recommendable " OFF – THE – BEATEN – TRACK " in Inle is to visit SAGAR & THAKHAUK" Villages. Take boat to South; visit Kyauktine & Kyain Kham villages to see Lotus fiber weaving & Shan pottery works. Have a stop and visit a market day if there's one on the way. According to the tradition of Shan State, one main village held one market day in every five days. Being hilly area, hill people from neighboring villages would come to near by market day. Continue by boat to Sagar village. Visit an old monastery and stroll about the village.

Continue by boat to Thakhauk pagoda complex Take a path to the pagoda complex, which is dated back to A.D 19th century. Visit the ruins of Pa-O temples that are decorated with Mythical birds & animals. The exquisite artwork of hamsa birds, kinnari /kinnara,a Buddha image and his disciples are rare discovery that can only fine in this part of Myanmar.

OPTION ( III ) : DISCOVER SHWE-ZAR-YAN & MEKKAYA OLD CITY ( MANDALAY )

Depart Mandalay about 07:00 am and drive to May Myo direction. On the way stop at Shwe-Zar Yan Pagoda , build by Queen Saw Mon Hla of Bagan. This small pagoda is built in Mountainous area, but it has a history value since from King Anawratha of Bagan. Visit around the place and take a boat down stream of Dok-hta-waddy River for 15minutes. The boat will stop at Mekkaya Jetty and visit Mekkaya Old city and it's ruin. Continue by boat down the river for 4hrs passing by beautiful scenery of the river until Shwe Ket Kya Pagoda near Mandalay.

OPTION ( IV ) : TREKKING BEYOND MAYMYO

A new trekking route has been explored as an extension from Maymyo. Depart 08:00hrs from Maymyo Pwekhauk waterfall. Walk along the village path and some plantation for one hour will reach a small cave where U Hnaung (a hermit ) used to meditate last 80 yrs ago. The cave was in a dense forest with a stream flowing beside. Keep trekking after the cave and the monastery to fields of plantation. The interesting place is Nat Kyone forest and Nat Kyone fort where Shan and Myanmar army had a battle while sending back the Shan Princess Saw Mon Hla. Nat kyone forest is a very thick & dark tropical forest where many kinds of hard wood grow. Keep walking through various plantation, a village and small streams will reach a spring field valley or Ye-thayauk-kone village.

Total time of trekking is about 2hr 30mins. Can keep trekking to the East for another 2hrs will reach the Paik-chin-myaung water fall.

OPTION ( V ) : MYAING HAY WON ELEPHANT CAMP & PHO KYAR ELEPHANT CAMP.

Drive to North West of Yangon, Taik-kyi ,Pha-lone road and then to Myaing Hay Won elephant camp. The route is about 120km, some part of the road is quite dusty. The elephant camp is for young elephants that are being trained to work at the logging site. One can have the opportunity to study training of domestic elephants, elephant riding around the camp, hiking and mountaineering in the forest and also study of fishes and aquatic creatures in La-har-ma-ngai pond. Accommodation is available for overnight visitors.

A real atmosphere and essence of being in an ideal ecotourism spot is Pho Kyaw forest resort at the foot of Bago Yoma mountain ranges. The camp is 204 miles away from Yagon . The nearest gateway to the camp on Yangon-Mandalay road is Thagara. Visiting the site will have a chance to see 150years old teak wood and other commercial trees, seasonal flowers, wild orchids and birds. Visit mahaut village and see the relationship between elephants and mahauts and how they are trained. The place is good to study nature, culture and life style and eco tourism. Accommodation is available in bungalow type. The place is worth visiting for clients who love nature and culture.

OPTION ( VI ) : CROCODILE SANCTUARY AT BOGALE AND MAIN-MA-HLA ISLAND.

A Study of Crocodile nature can be done at Ayeyarwaddy Delta area. Bogale and Mein-ma-hla Island are situated at a place where seawater and fresh water meets, which is a superb nature for crocodiles, reptiles and mammals, mangrove ecosystem and shore birds. Take a bus to Bogale and by boat to Byone Hmwe village. Study the nature of Birds, mangrove forest and continue to Main-ma-hla wildlife sanctuary by boats to watch crocodiles and glow worms. Visit to fishing villages and nature of people and their way of living.
 

OPTION ( VII ) : TREKKING IN HSI-PAW

Trek 1 – Trekking to Palaung ( B )
Trek for 40min to Shan village then to Palaung village (Pankam village) about ( 3hrs). This village is a Palaung village. They wear their traditional dress till now. Visit around the village and return to Hsipaw. Overnight at guest house.

Trek 2 – Boat trip ( B )
After upstream in the Doakhtawaddy River about (1hr) by boat, you will continue trekking up to the mountain passing through the Pineapple, Lemon, Orange, Papaya and Teak plantation about (1hr), you will arrive Naung Yone monastery. Visit around the monastery and watch the daily life style and return to the jetty. Continue to Sum Lone (Shan)village. Visit around the village and return to Hsipaw at 15:00 pm. Overnight at guesthouse.
