Seven Star Tours’ humanitarian projects during Cyclone Nargis (02-03 May 2008)

Deadly Cyclone Nargis hit lower delta region in the evening of 2nd May and it killed more than 10000 human lives and totally destructed the properties in this region. All the lands were flooded with water and the reservoirs were contaminated with salt water.

We received mails and phone calls from our colleagues overseas and friends who were willing to help the victims of the Cyclone Nargis. The first step we took towards helping the victims was to deliver emergency aid.

Our volunteer team (Seven Star Tours) took some relief items (very basic needs) such as rice, drinking water, clean water, clothing, cooking oil, instant noodles, etc to the various camps at Kun Chan Kone area, Ma U Bin and Dadaye. These areas were the worst hit areas by the Cyclone Nagis.

The villagers were queuing beside the road and waiting for donor. It was such a sad scene.

Seven Star Tours is a member of MMC (Myanmar Marketing Committee). MMC in collaboration with UMTA (Union of Myanmar Travel Association) formed an Active Team (MTCRT) for helping welfare of villagers by rebuilding schools in villages.

With initiation from MTCRT, Seven Star Tours team has taken part in rebuilding of the following Primary schools.

  • SST Project 1 – Pathi Primary School (Semi parker/Completed 05 July 2008)
  • SST Project 2 – Sit Pin Kwin Primary School (Completed 14 July 2008)
  • SST Project 3 – Nyaung Lan Primary School (Completed March 2009)
  • SST Project 4 – Kyaiklat Kalay Primary School (Completed March 2009)
  • SST Project 5 – Nga Bye Ma Primary School (Completed March 2009)
  • SST Project 6 – Mayangyun Primary School (Completed May 2009)

Most of the schools were rebuilt with steel structure, brick noggin with corrugated tin roofing. School kits, umbrellas, school uniforms were also contributed.

We simply would like to thank those who had given a helping hand from every corner they can share, without them above projects cannot be completed successfully.
